Duncan MacOwan
FESPA’s Head of Events and Marketing
This time it’s an interview with Duncan MacOwan, FESPA’s Head of Events and Marketing! Check out what Duncan says about how the idea for the Personalization Experience Area came about and how he sees the future of personalization! Enjoy!
[Waclaw Mostowski]
This is the first time when FESPA is organizing the personalization experience event and what’s the idea behind it? Why did you decided to organize it?
[Duncan MacOwan]
Yeah, sure. So personalization has been technically possible for quite a long time now and it is being used, but we believe it’s possible to use it so much more. And that’s really at the heart of why we decided to bring together as many different people, from brand owners to creative agencies to technology providers and of course, printers too to really get together and discuss it and see what’s possible, understand what each other are doing and where we can help each other. So that’s that’s what FESPA was about really, is connecting people and helping them to to move things forward. And that’s what’s behind the personalization experience.
[Waclaw Mostowski]
And what do you think? What’s the what’s the future of the personalization in terms of the printing industry?
[Duncan MacOwan]
So it’s definitely going to progress. As we heard in the conference earlier this week, we heard about behavioral science, we heard about the upcoming generation. So Gen Z that really maturing into today’s consumer and then Gen A, which is tomorrow’s consumer and their need for personalization and their mindset and how it differs from like older guys like myself in terms of them behaving and existing as personal brands. And so as personal brands, they’ll be looking for, for personal items and personal experiences and experiences is actually a keyword for those generations where it’s less about material things like a house or car and it’s more about experiences. And that’s where personalization can really come into into the mix.
[Waclaw Mostowski]
How do you find the first event, like first edition of the personalization experience event what are your thoughts about it?
[Duncan MacOwan]
So it’s been fantastic. I mean, it’s been months in the making from a small idea sparked by a single discussion and then the research around it and then seeing it actually come together with great technology providers like Antigro and many others and all the print providers and the brands and the agencies all coming together to understand it and connect and share the challenges and also their experiences and learnings in meeting those challenges. So it’s so satisfying as a as an event organizer and not just an event organizer, but an event organizer from an organization like FESPA, where we exist wholly for the industry. We are of the industry with our association structure. This is our at the heart of what we do is bringing people together and helping them to to move forward in that business collectively. So really exciting to see that and super excited to look forward to the next edition.
[Waclaw Mostowski]
We are also very happy with this edition. We see a huge interest in new technologies among the print printing industry. And yeah, we are also excited about seeing you in Amsterdam next year.
